An outstanding IT infrastructure

For its first-class digital infrastructure and continuous further development, the darmstadtium received the first INCON Digital Infrastructure Award in 2014 and was again able to prevail against renowned international competition in 2019. Continuous investments are made in response to the rapidly changing environment. In doing so, the focus is on customer wishes and the focus of action is determined by the current and future requirements on the part of the event organisers.


Thanks to the excellent connectivity in all areas of the building, the darmstadtium can offer customers diverse and secure solutions. With 2 x 20 gigabit/s external internet connection, it is the fastest congress centre in Germany. 42 powerful switch components with 1,800 ports bring broadband network service for up to 1,500 end devices to the entire 18,000 square metres of the congress centre.

ISAL - International Symposium of Automotive Lighting - is an exciting example of hybrid events at darmstadtium. The three-day congress with an international audience skillfully combined on-site and virtual program items. The 600 or so visitors were treated to a wide range of activities: a series of lectures and panel discussions, an accompanying exhibition and numerous networking opportunities.

Thanks to the virtual centerpiece of the event, the event web app, purely digital participation was also possible. The presentations and sessions in the two congress halls spectrum and ferrum were streamed live and were subsequently available on demand. External speakers from all over the world were connected to the panel discussions and participants were able to engage in virtual discussions in real time using various digital interaction tools.

Best Case Digital and Innovation Day 2020

The darmstadtium was the exclusive location and livestream partner of the fifth Digital and Innovation Day, the annual event for digital transformation in the events sector. At its event entitled “Hybrid Events – the Best of Both Worlds”, the German Convention Bureau invited participants to a virtual dialogue about implementing digital and hybrid event formats on November 26th, 2020. It was streamed from the conference room ferrum. In virtual discussion rounds, two of our staff members explained the technical requirements for hybrid events.
