Third Destination Earth User eXchange

The EU initiative Destination Earth, which is developing a high-precision digital model of planet Earth, announces the third Destination Earth user eXchange on 15–16 October 2024 in Darmstadt, Germany. 

Destination Earth is implemented by the three entrusted entities EUMETSAT, ECMWF and ESA, with the common objective to model, monitor and simulate natural phenomena. It will also predict environmental change and human impact to support sustainable development measures.

Destination Earth is composed of three main components: the digital twin engine and the digital twins developed by ECMWF, the core service platform - the users’ entry point to the system developed by ESA, and the data lake providing similar access to DestinE data and federated data together with edge processing services, implemented by EUMETSAT.

The initial version of the DestinE system has now been launched. In less than two and a half years, the teams, involving more than 100 partners from countries all over Europe, have worked around the clock to assemble the main components.
This new user exchange is a great opportunity to strengthen the DestinE user community During the event, multiple thematic sessions will take place to inform stakeholders about the status of the DestinE system and use cases. Some demonstrations of applications will be showcase and DestinE users will have the opportunity to present their work to the community during dedicated sessions. These thematic sessions are a great opportunity to collect community feedback on usability and future needs.
