IT hotspot darmstadtium – well-connected in the digital city Darmstadt

Darmstadt, August 2017 – Darmstadt is a digital city – and therefore the perfect environment for Germany's fastest congress centre. With its award-winning infrastructure, the darmstadtium meets the highest expectations when it comes to networking technology and connectivity.

The darmstadtium is a science, business and cultural hub. It not only hosts international science conferences and major corporation meetings but also art and cultural events for all age groups. The IT industry also holds numerous events at the darmstadtium – as the customers are not only impressed by the congress centre as an IT hotspot; as an exemplary digital city, Darmstadt is also the perfect environment: The "City of Science" has won the "Digital City" competition organised by the IT industry association Bitkom in cooperation with the "Deutscher Städte- und Gemeindebund" (DStGB) local government association with the help of many of Darmstadt’s institutions and companies, including the darmstadtium. And for a good reason: Darmstadt is already equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and scored with its innovation capability and pioneering spirit. This IT expertise and the outstanding information technology that is constantly being developed further are also important USPs for the darmstadtium and some of the reasons why so many customers, also from the IT industry, love to come back here so often. "The darmstadtium is a dynamic venue that translates big social trends into modern service offers for its conferencing and event customers. This also applies to how the darmstadtium practices sustainability in an exemplary way and how the venue has positioned itself as the building that symbolises the "City of Science". It also applies to the digitalisation as a change process that affects all areas of our lives. Again, the darmstadtium is already state-of-the-art in this respect," says Jochen Partsch, the executive mayor of the "City of Science" Darmstadt and chair of the darmstadtium’s supervisory board.

Positive start to the new year

The year 2017 began extremely positively for the darmstadtium; in the first six months, it already generated a turnover of more than 2.7 million euros. Important USPs such as its IT and the good connections – both in technical terms and also in terms of the further improved infrastructure with the AirLiner – have contributed to this positive result. The strategy for the coming years also relies heavily on this aspect in order to maintain the darmstadtium’s excellent position in this demanding market environment. Lars Wöhler, the darmstadtium Manager Director, emphasises: "The 75 per cent proportion of regular customers and the fact that almost 100 per cent of our customers would recommend us highlight the progress we have made with the service offered by our congress centre. However, we won’t be resting on our laurels; we are constantly developing our company and our services further in order to meet the most discerning demands."

Outlook: Future event highlights

With the record figures of the past years as well as the monthly record figures achieved in the first six months of 2017 now behind us, we can now also look ahead: We can already announce some exciting event formats such as, for example, the next 2018 SQL Server Conference or the "Deutscher Verwaltungsgerichtstag" in 2019, which will be attended by around 1,000 national and international delegates from the justice, local government, legal and science communities, or the science conference EUROCRYPT 2019, which has been held in a different European city each year since 1987 – after ten years, Darmstadt will be bringing this international conference back to Germany. The list of high-profile events also includes the 2019 DG PARO annual conference, where renowned international speakers will hold presentations on periodontology, and the gala awards presentation event "Deutscher Umweltpreis" 2021, Germany’s prestigious environmental award. The darmstadtium congress centre will be hosting the latter in its state-of-the-art function rooms for the first time and was chosen as the venue because of its exemplary sustainability, resource conservation and smart energy management practices.
