Why darmstadtium
The name "darmstadtium wissenschaft | kongresse (science | congresses)" is derived from "Darmstadtium", the 110th element of the periodic system of elements. "Darmstadtium" was discovered in 1994 by the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung " (GSI) and named after the city of Darmstadt, in which it was detected for the first time. Therewith, the name of the new science and congress centre is inevitably linked to the city of Darmstadt. Furthermore, it shows the strong focus on scientific research that is a major characteristic of the city of Darmstadt. Darmstadt is the only german city that was used to name a new element! Concerning the international scientific community, "Darmstadtium" is even more known than the city of Darmstadt itself.
